Rochester, MI 48306
Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park and the Barkev and Nancy Israelian Kezlarian Conservation Easement have been acquired using financial contributions from the Township’s Land Preservation millage, a generous donation from the Kezlarian siblings, Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grants, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality – Clean Michigan Initiative, Oakland County Planning and Economic Development, and The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan – Greenways Initiative.
These 268-acres encompass some of the most desirable natural areas protected as a Township park, including the scenic stream valley of the West Branch of Stony Creek, oak forests, prairie plantings, restored wetlands, and post-glacial landscape. Nearly two miles of trails wind through these special natural areas. Pedestrian access only at this time.
Planned access improvements, a parking lot and trailhead at Snell Road, accessible limestone trails, a stream overlook, mowed paths, and a trail connection to Stony Creek Metropark.
Park Closed During Controlled Hunts
Tuesdays & Wednesdays, October 1 through January 31
When Oakland Township purchased both Marsh View Park and Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park, a significant portion of the purchase cost was paid by a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant. One of the grant conditions is that we must allow controlled archery deer hunting at these parks.
From 2002 through 2008 Oakland Township Parks offered this opportunity at Marsh View Park by issuing Township permits which are enforced by Parks staff and Oakland County Sheriff Deputies. The participating hunters in this program have abided by the Township’s strict rules and we have been successful in adhering to all safety guidelines as well as meeting the state’s grant requirements. Due to construction of active recreation facilities at Marsh View Park hunting is no longer feasible there.
Since 2009 Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park has been open to antlerless archery deer hunting on specific Tuesdays and Wednesdays from October 1 through December 31, with both a MDNR and Township Park hunting permit. Under the MDNR’s Urban Deer Management Zone, Oakland Township Parks antlerless archery season is currently extended to January 31 annually.
Hunting is not offered in any other Township Parks.
